DESCRIPTION
This work is a resource for gender and development trainers which draws on the work of gender trainers all over the world. It offers field-tested training techniques, activities and photocopiable handouts, drawn from a wide range of sources and shaped into a coherent training programme. The manual includes activities which explore such areas as: gender-awareness and self-awareness for women and men; gender roles and needs; gender-sensitive appraisal and planning; gender and major global issues such as conflict, environment, culture and economic crisis; working with counterparts on gender issues; gender and development; and strategies for change.
The Oxfam Gender Training Manual is primarily intended as a resource for trainers and organizations concerned with development and relief, in the North and in the South. It should also be of value to any organization attempting to incorporate a gender perspective into its work.

REVIEWS
This is an outstanding manual which deserves to be widely used by nongovernmental organisations. In addition, some of the training is directly transferable to educational establishments and to the commercial sector where gender inequalities still exist. This book, if widely used, is likely to have a significant effect on development and relief work in the Third World. Science, Technology & Development
This excellent manual was first published in1994 and has been around long enough to have proved its worth many times over...The 640 pages contain everything required to run a gender training programme that will be relevant, fascinating and transforming...The great value of the manual is that it is as relevant for use with a small rural community as it is for introducing gender training to a university setting. It is a valuable resource for government and non government organisations, for schools, for consultants and contractors - for anyone who is dedicated to providing quality gender training. Australian Development Studies Network, January 1998
Despite its size, over 600 pages, the use of the manual remains easy because of the book's very clear structure...A very useful publication. ILEIA Newsletter, July 1995
